Les Misérables Review

Charles Pring - Glasgow Times.

Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular continues to stun audiences across the globe, and its recent run at Glasgow’s Hydro only further cemented its status as a must-see event. According to Charles Pring of the Glasgow Times, the production "did not disappoint" as it transported the audience into Victor Hugo’s iconic tale of revolution, love, and redemption on an epic scale.

The vocal performances were truly world-class, with Emily Bautista's moving portrayal of Éponine in On My Own and Jac Yarrow's heartfelt depiction of Marius stealing the show. Pring even noted that the performances surpassed those of the 2012 film, with every note pitch-perfect, adding a rich emotional depth to the production.

Visually, the show was a feast for the senses. The digital projections and larger-than-life set pieces transformed the venue into 19th-century Paris, with iconic moments such as the barricades captivating the audience. However, Pring mentioned that due to the scale of the production, some moments felt more like a concert, with actors singing into cameras projected onto large screens. Despite this, it still enhanced the experience by bringing the actors' faces into clear view for emotional scenes.

If you missed the Glasgow run, fear not! Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular is coming to Utilita Arena Sheffield from 10-13 October 2024. After months of being sold out, a new batch of tickets has just been released. Don’t miss the chance to witness this breathtaking production in one of its limited UK engagements.

As Pring concluded, this is a "spectacular" production that lives up to its name and delivers a top-tier night of entertainment.
